Search engine optimization has been around for a long time now. The science of ranking in the search engines, or SEO, has progressed a lot over the few years. When something grows to this proportion, there is a lot of false information that appears which you need to know about. While they appear to be real and can be quite frightening, many of the SEO myths you hear are nothing more than stories. This article will cover some of these stories and prove them wrong.

Some people fall for a common yet strange SEO myth believing that PPC ads will help rank their site higher in the organic listings. The latter is totally untrue. Quite a few people believe that by running PPC ads they will be able to improve the ranking of their website in the search engine pages. What you need to keep in mind is that PPC and SERP rankings have no influence on each other. This is why it is a mistake to spend money on PPC based on the assumption that your site will rank better. Instead, you should concentrate on building more backlinks to your website and to create more quality content to ensure that your site continues to increase in rank. You should use common sense to judge the validity of this myth. Another SEO myth is that you should optimize only one keyword with one page. This idea that every page should only be optimized for one key phrase is something that many internet marketers believe, but it is simply not true. Website owners who use this technique believe that by making their pages highly focused, they will be ranked more highly by the search engines. One reason this isn't a good idea is that it will ruin the quality of your content, causing you to write articles that keep repeating a single keyword phrase. The second problem with this is that you are not making the best use of your space by not using additional key phrases. What is the point of targeting a single keyword when the same page could be optimizing several keyword phrases? The best way to optimize your pages is to place as many targeted keywords on each of them as you can. You'll get more targeted traffic this way. If you analyze your web analytics, you'll see that all the traffic is coming from various keyword phrases. If you want to rank well in the search engines, optimize several different keyword phrases.

The belief that your site will get the ban hammer if you buy incoming links from other relevant websites is also a big story and nothing more. If they knew that these links were paid links they would not count them because they don't like people trying to influence the rankings of their sites, however, in most cases they aren't aware of the fact. They would just discount these links if they were to find out that you paid for them. It doesn't make sense for them to ban a site completely just because it advertised its link on other websites. What you must keep in mind is that the same link building rules apply even when you are buying links. So whether you're buying links or not, always get links from sites that are relevant. Overall, despite the fact that SEO demands quite a bit of effort to work well for your site, it is worth it in the long run. The most effective way to learn SEO is through experience and not believing these fallacies that appear all the time.
