No person with an inkling about business can deny the power of networking and what it can accomplish. What's so great about this social approach is it's entirely up to you, and you can make it as extensive as you please. This is really nothing new at all, and you have some knowledge of networking, most likely. But those who have businesses that can gain value from networking know if it's for them. But, yes of course you can go about it all wrong, and that's why we offer this small collection of networking mistakes to avoid.
Even if a luncheon does not lead to business, still make the offer to take care of the lunch check. Hopefully you see the value in doing this, but in the end it's up to you. So if you invite them, then just be casual about it and announce beforehand that you will cover expenses. When you do these little things, then you are sowing good will and it will be remembered. Don't worry about it and just use the time together for productive talk about business. Did you see the possibilities for what can be done in your web business? One thing is certain, though, and that is perhaps 99% of any kind of online venture can stand to have more promotional methods put to work. Perhaps the worst thing any business owner can do is start taking success for granted and becoming ungrateful for it. We have read and heard about so many things over the years, and all the unfortunate things that happen to people are often partially self-inflicted in some way. Even with a powerful method using Facebook marketing, you will never get to the point where everything is totally hands-free, nor do you really want to do that. Look at SEO, search engine optimization, and with that you can never truly stop working on it because if you do then other will be gaining on you.
Networking events are meant to be positive, so just avoid any negative talk about anything because it creates a bad impression. This form of behavior is typically viewed as being crude and vulgar, so that is not what you want people to think about you. It really doesn't matter at all who knows whom, so just avoid doing it unless you like being isolated. Any kind of gossip is insidious, and if you must talk about it then leave out the names. This is also about dropping names for credibility purposes and it's a dangerous thing to do sometimes. Just ask the mutual friend to make the introduction.
If you are making plans to meet each other, then do not change the meeting place. If, for some reason, the place you agreed to meet turns out to be closed or too busy to secure a table (as is the case with most coffee shops), call the other person and let them know of the situation. Then you can make other plans for another location. Or you can both meet at the spot and then find another place close by. Do not change the plans without informing your contact. This is not a good thing and this will make the other person not want to meet with you anymore.
You can network in many different ways and places. This means that there are all sorts of opportunities to make mistakes. If anything, know how to talk to others you've met for the first time, and that will help you. Other people deal with the same issues as you, so just look at them as someone you can help.
